Suzy Hansen is an American journalist and editor who has lived in Istanbul, Turkey for almost ten years. She is a contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine, where she writes mainly on Turkish politics, and has written about foreign affairs for publications such as the London Review of Books, Vogue, GQ, Bloomberg Businessweek, among many other publications. Her first book about America's role in the Middle East, will be published in 2017 by Farrar, Straus and Giroux.
Before she moved to Turkey, Hansen worked as an editor at Salon.com and The New York Observer for seven years. In 2007, Hansen was awarded a journalism fellowship from the Institute of Current World Affairs to move to Turkey, and since then has travelled for her work to Libya, Greece, Egypt, Afghanistan, Kuwait, India, Kenya, and beyond.
