Toni Morrison was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1993. She was the author of many novels, including The Bluest Eye, Beloved, Paradise and Love. She also received a Pulitzer Prize for her fiction, the National Book Critics Circle Award for Lifetime Achievement and the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honour in the United States.
