Anna Ledwich's adaptation of The Butterfly Lion opens at Chichester Festival

Chichester Festival Theatre’s Writer-in-Residence Anna Ledwich adapts Michael Morpurgo's classic children's novel for the stage.

Set between an English boarding school and the plains of Africa, Anna uses Morpurgo himself as a character to narrate a story brought to life by pupperts.

Here's what the critics have to say:

'Be warned: it’s emotionally unstinting. It’s also entirely gorgeous. Take some tissues, and enjoy.' The Times

'Essentially War Horse meets The Lion King...visually bewitching’ The Stage

'Theatre at its most direct and most shocking; The Butterfly Lion soars because it gives us theatre at its most poignant, the theatre of longing, of hopes and dreams and memories.' Chichester Observer

'I’m overjoyed to say – it’s a must-see.' Portsmouth News

The Butterfly Lion runs from 5 October – 15 November at The Minerva Theatre in Chichester.  Book tickets now
