David Leon reprises his leading role as Detective Sergeant Joe Ashworth in the new series of popular crime thriller Vera for ITV.The series opens with a haunting adaptation of Ann Cleeves' novel Harbour Street, which sees Joe and his daughter Jessie board a crowded Metro train in Newcastle only to find an elderly passenger murdered in her seat.
Joe and DCI Vera Stanthorpe (Brenda Blethyn) are led on a chilling investigation to a desolate harbour town in Northumberland where they find a community hiding dangerous secrets. As Joe's daughter becomes a key witness in the murder investigation, the case invades his family home and Joe becomes caught up in the blurring of his personal and professional worlds.
David is also an award-winning director and his debut feature film Orthodox starring Stephen Graham is due for release this year.
The opening episode features William Rush as Ryan the emotional and savage trouble maker embroiled in the mystery surrounding the woman's death.
Michael Hodgson plays Thomas Kenworthy in episode two. Vera and her team are brought in to investigate the death of his brother. Thomas has a Veneer of charm but is perhaps not as honest as he appears. Vera later uncovers a mesh of family betrayals and lies from the past that erupt into the present and we realise that Thomas has been very good at keeping secrets.Michael can currently be seen in the Northern Stage tour of Catch 22.
