Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City novel series, first published as a column in the San Francisco Chronicle, is once again being adapted for television. A miniseries will come to Netflix early summer 2019, with returning cast members Laura Linney as Mary Ann Singleton, Paul Gross as Bryan Hawkins, Barbara Garrick as DeDe Halcyon Day, and Olympia Dukakis as Anna Madrigal. Ellen Page is joining the cast to play Shawna Hawkins, daughter of Mary Ann and Brian, and Murray Bartlett will star as Michael 'Mouse' Tolliver.
The full cast and crew have been announced, both of which are largely made up of members of the LGBTQ community, reflecting the diversity of characters in the series. Production is headed up by Lauren Morelli (Orange is the New Black) as Showrunner and Executive Producer, and Alan Poul who worked on the last Tales of the City adaptation, as Producing Director and Executive Producer.
