South Bank Sky Art Awards’ annual celebration of the best of British culture has revealed the full list of nominees across 10 categories – and CB has gathered itself a fair few nominations.
People Just Do Nothing starring Asim Chaudhry, Allan Mustafa, Hugo Chegwin, Steve Stamp, Lily Brazier and Ruth Bratt has received a nod for Best Comedy. The third series of the BAFTA award winning mockumentary was released to BBC iPlayer in 2016 and a fourth series is currently in production.
Happy Valley has been nominated for Best TV Drama. The crime series starring Siobhan Finneran and Karl Davies has stormed the awards season, winning Best Drama and Finneran getting a nomination for Best Supporting Actress at the 2017 BAFTAs.
Ken Loach’s hard-hitting I, Daniel Blake is up for Best Film. Dave Johns stars as the titular character, depicting the inadequacies and injustices of the British welfare system. Dave will be heading back to his comedy roots with his show I, Fillum Star at the Edinburgh Fringe this August.
And lastly, Yerma starring Billie Piper and John MacMillan has been nominated for Best Theatre. The show received rave reviews across the board, presenting the story of a farmer’s wife broken by her longing for a child.
The ceremony will take place take place on Sunday 9th July at The Savoy Hotel with South Bank Show presenter Melvyn Bragg hosting.
